Little Bug is section hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Little Bug is Sarah Usary, an Appalachian Trail section hiker from Boonsboro, Maryland, a small town at the base of South Mountain and just 2.5 miles from the Trail.

Twenty-some years ago, Little Bug’s parents took their toddler on a stroll up to the Washington Monument (not the one in D.C., the original Washington Monument on top of South Mountain) along Maryland’s section of the Appalachian Trail and it became the first of Little Bug’s many adventures on the AT.

In 2015, Little Bug decided she was going to attempt to hike the whole dang thing in sections. From weekend trips in Pennsylvania to a Long Ass Section Hike from Springer Mountain, GA all the way back to Boonsboro, LB picked away at new miles on the AT. During the summer of 2021, she hiked the remaining 896.8 miles solo, from the PA/NJ border all the way to Mount Katahdin in Maine, and completed section hiking the entire Appalachian Trail.
